PROGRAM PURPOSE

The purpose of this program is to train and educate professionals to teach and share the “medicine of flow” in any environment, from clinical to corporate, or even at home with your children. If you are considering this program, then you likely are already familiar with the powerful therapeutic benefits of “flow art practices”, including neuro-protective effects and relieving depression and anxiety. The “flow arts” is a rapidly emerging field proving to be one of the most powerful transformative and healing somatic practices. The problem, until now, is the lack of evidence- and scholarly-based training for it to work in environments other than circus, festival or other, more casual scenes.

We have held the vision for years to help bring the medicine of flow into those environments that could benefit the most like hospitals, mental health institutes, research institutes, schools, universities, government departments, the military, and corporate offices. As we all know, it is difficult to bring new paradigms of learning and healing (especially play-based) into these environments without being presented in a credible way. Usually this means . . . . based in science.

We’re thrilled to present the first training of its kind (that we are aware of) to help solve this problem and support professionals like you spread this medicine. If you already have a coaching or therapy practice, this training will allow you to include flow movement designed to unlock and re-wire areas in the brain and body where traditional coaching/therapy do not focus. If you are a yoga, fitness, or dance teacher, this program will make your offerings more dynamic and transformative. Combined with modalities that nurture the inner child, this Therapeutic Flow Arts track offers professionals a powerful addition to their current practice.

Not interested in learning to teach? That’s OK.

This program will help you to deepen your personal practice. You’ll walk away with a solid home practice, along with profound new perspectives on your own health and life.

Ultimately, this program is designed to help you help others let go of limiting perceptions, come home to who they truly, and create the joyful life that is their birthright.

If you’re not willing to learn how to lead some dance, shimmy and play, at the end of a “neuroscience of transformation” presentation,
then this program is probably not for you.

The Flow Arts

Dr. Jinju Dasalla, “Beauty that Transforms” retreat, Bali, March 2019

Dr. Jinju Dasalla, “Beauty that Transforms” retreat, Bali, March 2019

As we step into this new decade, it’s truly amazing to think of the rapidly rising number of lives being transformed by yoga, dance and the flow arts.

It is an exciting time to be living. People are so ready to learn how play again and to explore new dimensions of BE-ing.

Yogis are ready to get off the mat, dancers are ready to get on the mat, and flow artists all over the world are paving a new path in somatic healing in the most joyful, creative ways possible.

For several of you, poi and/or hoop-dancing, may not be your primary inspiration for doing this program. Be assured that poi and/or hoop-dancing are NOT the primary focus in this program. However, we urge and encourage you to bring this into your personal practice. Studies, widely available on the web, have shown that just five minutes a day of this kind of “juggling” or “dance” movement will increase brain mass, synaptic connectivity, reduce anxiety, and help overcome depression.

So why flow arts?

This rapidly emerging field referred to as the “flow arts” is, at its deepest core, a form of yoga, a path of inquiry.

As a transformative and healing somatic practice, a rising number of studies have revealed therapeutic benefits, powerfully restoring and retraining the nervous system. It’s not only an art to unify, bridge, and harmonize various aspects of oneself, but also to weave together many different disciplines into a singular-threaded, creative expression. These disciplines can include meditation, dance, yoga, simple play, and performance; in addition, it often includes moving with an object such as poi, staff, or the hula-hoop. This movement art requires learning to move gracefully in relationship to oneself, others, and the natural cycles and rhythms universal to life.

You may be thinking to yourself, “There are so many activities in the world that have us learn to move, think and feel in transformative new ways . . . . why flow arts?”

Good question.

What is unique about the Flow Arts is that it bridges so many different practices and modalities to maximize engagement of as many somatic sensory systems as possible.

You will learn why this is important in alchemizing our minds, bodies, and emotions, later in this program.

What is a NeuroSomatic Flow Arts Teacher?

To answer this question, let us begin with the root word, soma.

According to ancient Vedic texts, Soma was originally a plant worshipped as a Vedic deity of the moon, flowing waters, ecstasy, and inspiration. Soma also means the living body of an organism in its wholeness. Somatic coaches, therapists, and teachers support clients in optimizing their lives by resourcing the innate intelligence of the body. In a world that has become dominated by mental processes, the rapidly growing field of somatics (which includes yoga and other movement meditations) is helping to bring people back into their bodies and restore a much needed balance between the mind and the body.

NaiAsa NeuroSomatic Flow Teachers & Facilitators focus not only on reclaiming the wisdom of the body, but also on creating new ways of being through new ways of moving that re-wire the brain and nervous system while simultaneously releasing limiting beliefs and trauma in a joyful way.

For those who go on to become NaiAsa Coaches, elements that set our coaches apart from most classical life coaches are transformational practices including embodied play, word play, ritual, dance, flow arts, yoga, and breathwork. Above all, however, is the paradigm shift from the more linear, rigid, ways of facilitating transformation to being more balanced, circular, flowing, intuitive styles of coaching, that powerfully guide their clients home, not just to their bodies, but equally importantly, to living a life aligned with their hearts, their bliss, and clarity on what ignites their soul.

From: http://orderjoynow.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/5es.png

AIR (Science) - This element invites theoretical study and curious exploration to cultivate wisdom, inspiration, knowledge, intention, and expanded perspectives for what is possible. Trainees will devote scholarly study of the neuroscience, philosophy, and language of Flow.

EARTH (Soma) -  The Earth element roots the formless into form, and honors physical experience through all sensory systems as a crucial way of “knowing” and “discerning.” Candidates will learn how to create safe and strong containers for healing and embodied transformation to occur for themselves and for their clients. Trainees intending to become NaiAsa Certified Coaches are required to immerse into the experiential aspects of NaiAsa Institute principles by attending the full Beauty that Transforms retreat. The next retreat will be held in Bali on March 21 - 31th, 2020. The next virtual women’s program begins in September of 2020.

WATER (Sacred FeminYinity) - According to many cultures, water is considered the most feminine/yin and the most powerful of all the elements. Water rules the realm of emotionality, sensuality, relationships, and the art of flow. Research has confirmed that relationship is more important for the healing journey than any techniques used by a therapist, psychologist, physician, counselor, and beyond. (This is also the component that seems to get the least attention in most Western-based, health professional training programs.) Because NaiAsa NeuroSomatic Flow Teachers (and Coaches) are also healers, candidates will cultivate those essential qualities of presence, playfulness, compassion, and beyond to cultivate nurturing relationships that naturally propel clients forward in a balanced, and organic, way.

FIRE (Soul Expression) -  Fire is the element that ignites action and transformation. NaiAsa NeuroSomatic Flow Teachers (and Coaches) are skilled in and committed to having their students/clients connect with their practice in a meaningful way, that is, in a way that rekindles and awakens the Inner Fire. And yes, for those wondering, fire-dancing can definitely play a significant part in this journey, and while not a part of this program, it is a part of the retreat and the final coaching module.

SPIRIT (Seva) - Seva is the sanskrit word for “selfless service.” Seva is also an important key to sustainability in the new world. Conscious surrender and REST are the final vital parts of every learning cycle and necessary for integration and restoration. NaiAsa Institute has designed this training program (and all programs) to include both Seva and relaxed integration time as essential elements of not only the training, but also the bigger vision of NaiAsa.

FAQ

How much time do I need to invest in this program? We anticipate around 4-6 hours/week.

Is this for women only? No, NeuroSomatic Flow is for all genders, ages, body types, etc. While we do have many programs designed specifically for women, this is not one of them.

Who is this program NOT for? This training is NOT for those focused exclusively on performance or circus arts.

How is it different from other flow trainings? While this program utilizes poi, and some hoop, as vehicles for the practice, the focus is on the body (somatic), and therefore taught as an embodiment practice. The trainee will learn the foundations of universal patterns of flow that can be applied to meditations, movements and props beyond the poi.

How is NeuroSomatic Flow™ different from NaiAsana™? The major difference is the intended purpose behind the two practices. NeuroSomatic Flow refers to the methodology in utilizing specific flow movements and techniques to rewire and repattern the brain and nervous system for the purpose of healing and personal transformation. NaiAsana is a style of yoga that celebrates, honors and invokes the Divine Feminine, in her many expressions, across cultures and across time. NaiAsana often weaves in wisdom and mythology (e.g., Pele Namaskar). NaiAsana almost always incorporates NeuroSomatic Flow, but NeuroSomatic Flow doesn’t necessarily incorporate NaiAsana.

Will I be certified to teach NaiAsana after completing this course? No, however, this NeuroSomatic Flow training is the first step! Being a prerequisite course, you WILL learn some of the foundational principles for NaiAsana Yoga. Because NaiAsana is also intended to specifically serve and support women, we also require completion of the 9-month Awaken Your Sacred Feminine Fire program.

What will I walk away with? Our graduates are not only prepared and ready to teach a full NaiAsa flow class or guide a flow journey, but also knowledgable in using NaiAsa Institute technologies such as NeuroSomatic Flow™ Techniques (NSFTs) to facilitate healing and transformation. They’ll also:

  • have the ability and have the confidence to teach a full NaiAsa flow class, series, or private journey.

  • demonstrate presenter level of understanding of NeuroSomatics (and the Neuroscience of Transformational Learning, in general)

  • have the ability to facilitate mind-body re-programming/re-patterning of behavior and beliefs

  • demonstrate Sacred Scholarship research paper with evidence-based research & presentation

  • have a community and tribe for continued support and inspiration

Will these hours count as Continuing Education with any organizations?

Yes, possibly up to 30 hours would count towards CE requirements for Yoga Alliance.
